How to Merge PDF Files

Combine multiple documents into one ordered PDF for sharing, archiving, or submission.

4 min readSep 5, 2026

Merging PDFs creates one document from several source files. A careful workflow preserves page order, orientation, and the information people need to navigate the result.

Prepare the source files

Rename files or place them in the intended order before merging. Check that each document opens, has the expected page count, and does not contain pages you meant to remove.

Review the combined document

After merging, skim every page and confirm portrait and landscape pages display correctly. Check bookmarks, forms, links, and page numbering if the document depends on them.

Protect the final copy

Keep the originals and name the combined file clearly. If it contains sensitive information, use an appropriate protected sharing method rather than relying on an obscure filename.
