How to Reduce JPG File Size
A practical workflow for making JPG photos smaller without obvious quality loss.
JPG is already a compressed format, but large dimensions and export settings can still make files unnecessarily heavy. A short resize-and-export workflow usually solves it.
Start with dimensions
Check the pixel dimensions before changing quality. If the image is much larger than its final use, resize it first. Fewer pixels means less data and usually better-looking results than aggressive compression alone.
Use a balanced quality setting
Export at a medium-high quality and inspect the result. Very low quality creates blocky edges and muddy detail, while maximum quality often adds file size that viewers will not see.
Remove unnecessary metadata
Camera metadata can add weight and may reveal location or device details. Remove it when the image does not need that information, especially for public uploads.
