How to Compress an Image

Image compression makes uploads faster, pages lighter, and storage easier to manage. The best result is not the smallest file; it is the smallest file that still looks right for its job.
Choose the right format
Use JPEG for photographs, PNG when you need transparency or crisp interface graphics, and WebP for a strong all-round web format. Converting formats before compressing can make a bigger difference than repeatedly lowering quality.
Resize before you compress
A 4000-pixel-wide photo rarely needs to stay that large for a website. Set the image dimensions to the largest size your layout needs, then export it with moderate quality. This removes pixels that could never be displayed.
Check the result
Compare the compressed image at its real display size. Look at text, faces, gradients, and sharp edges first. Keep the original until the smaller file has passed your visual and upload checks.
